"Appreciation can change a day, even change a life. Your willingness to put it into words is all that is necessary."- Margaret Cousins
Marcela was born and raised in southern Connecticut with a large and extended family that included her parents, four siblings, grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She studied at Assumption Catholic School in Fairfield from first to eighth grade. She was a very tenacious child that used the hard-working role models within her family to secure her first job at only 13 years old at a local ice cream shop. She hasn't stopped working since in jobs ranging from pizza delivery girl, to summer camp counselor, to restaurant manager.
She attended Fordham University where she obtained her Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Master's in Business Administration. Thereon she became a CPA working at a Big Four accounting firm in New York City. She now works in Branford, CT and resides in Milford, CT with her fiance and rescued pup.
Throughout her nearly two decades of schooling and countless jobs, Marcela has developed many relationships and remains very close to her family. It was her life experiences and family support that created the story of "Terry the Thankful Turkey." She realized that all of her life achievements were attributable to positive thinking and the relationships that she built with other people.
Marcela believed that practicing gratitude resulted in positive thinking. It increased her well-being and life satisfaction, and could be something taught to children early on. She observed how relationships with others are often a determining factor of overall happiness, and how gratitude and appreciation can significantly impact those relationships. She concluded that gratitude can change the way we perceive situations and can evolve into optimism and effective problem-solving.
Marcela wanted to create a product that fostered positive thinking, positive relationships and created opportunities to make memories with our friends and family members.
And so Terry was born...
